Good afternoon, every one. It is an honor to present you our group report of Extra Credit. In the book, Abby and Sadeed had a similar experience which was that they climbed. Although they both are careful climbers, Abby and Sadeed climbed for different reasons. Abby climbed just for play, while Sadeed climbed for survival: Sadeed can climb but what he truly wanted was the mountains could vanish someday; on the contrary, Abby just wished to prove herself that she was capable to overcome a steep wall and get to the top, so she practiced over and over again in her gym classes. It has created a very interesting situation that Sadeed tried to avoid climbing and Abby, on the other hand, expected it every day. Abby lives in the U.S. which is safe, free, open in most of the places; however, Sadeed's country was at war most of the time. Compare the artificial rock wall and the real mountains, we find that they reflect on Abby's and Sadeed's life in his/ her own country. As mentioned, the rock wall is safe. That means you won't get killed if you fall down of it. Abby's life in America is peaceful and quiet. , the mountains in Afghanistan is as dangerous as the life there. It's like when you fall off of the mountain, you obviously be dead and you would easily be killed by unexpected bombs, too. you can remove it at anytime you want. you can't romove it by ordinary power. To me, I think not only the rock wall in Abby's school but also the mountains of Afghanistan are hard to climb.

- Good afternoon, every one. It's an honor to be here. In this semester, we've read the book, Extra Credit. Our report is about the differences and similarities between these two main characters, Sadeed and Abby.
- First of all, we look at their differences. Both Sadeed and Abby came from different countries. Sadeed came from Afghanistan; Abby, the United States. We know that Abby is a Christian because there is a ninety percent of christainity in the U.S. On the other hand, Sadeed is a Muslim. Basically, the Middle East, where Sadeed lives, is part of Muslim world. While Abby’s hometown is peace and quiet, Sadeed’s is dangerous. From the letter Abby wrote to Sadeed, we know that Afghanistan is a place with many wars. When Sadeed's teacher, Mahmood, gathered some important people to have a meeting in the headman's house, one of them got his fingers blown up in a war against Soviet Union.
- Now we look at their schools. This was Abby's final year in the elementary school and she didn't pay much attention to her schoolwork until her teacher said that she would repeat the sixth grade. On the contrary, Sadeed was always a hard-working student and he studied in a small, mixed aged school.
- We've also found other differences.
- One, Abby speaks English. Sadeed speaks Arabic.
- Two, Abby's country terrain is plain and ravine, and Sadeed's is desert and highland.
- Three, Abby likes to climb, she likes the mountains. But Sadeed didn't like, he thought it's dangerous.
- Now we talk about the similarities. Apparently, not only their parents but also their teachers love and concerned about them. They both were assigned to an important task, which was to write a letter to a foreigner. They were both reluctant to do it in the beginning but they seemed to like it in the end.
- Their family members are alike – father, mother, brother and sister. There were one big brother and one young sister in their families. Although they have different personalities, they both devote themselves in what they are interested. Sadeed liked English. He had the best skills in English in their village. Abby liked to climb. She never missed her Gym class. Even though it was hard to get to the top, she would take every chance.
- That’s all about our report. Thank you for your attention.
