*First of all, we look at their differences. Both Sadeed and Abby came from different countries. Sadeed came from Afghanistan; Abby, the United States. Abby comes from a Christian country, the U.S.A. On the other hand, Sadeed is a Muslim. Basically, the Middle East, where Sadeed lives, is part of Muslim world. While Abby’s hometown is peaceful and quiet, Sadeed’s is dangerous. From the letter Abby wrote to Sadeed, we know that Afghanistan is a place with many wars. When Sadeed's teacher, Mahmood, gathered some important people to have a meeting in the headman's house, one of them has had his fingers blown off in a war against the Soviet Union. | *First of all, we look at their differences. Good afternoon, everyone. It is an honor to present you our group report of Extra Credit. In the book, Abby and Sadeed had a similar experience which was that they climbed. Although they both are careful climbers, Abby and Sadeed climbed for different reasons. Abby climbed just for play, while Sadeed climbed for survival: Sadeed can climb but what he truly wanted was the mountains could vanish someday; on the contrary, Abby just wished to prove to herself that she was capable of overcoming a steep wall and getting to the top, so she practiced over and over again in her gym classes. It has creates a very interesting situation in that Sadeed tries to avoid climbing and Abby, on the other hand, expects it every day. Abby lives in the U.S. which is safe, free and open in most of places; however, Sadeed's country was at war most of the time. Compare the artificial rock wall and the real mountains, we find that they reflect on Abby's and Sadeed's life in his/ her own country. As mentioned, the rock wall is safe. That means you won't get killed if you fall down. Abby's life in America is peaceful and quiet. , the mountains in Afghanistan is as dangerous as the life there. When you fall off of the mountain, you can die and you can easily be killed by unexpected bombs, too.
To me, I think not only the rock wall in Abby's school but also the mountains of Afghanistan are hard to climb.

- (綸、澧,以下)Good afternoon, every body. Our report is to analyze the personalities of main characters in the book of Extra Credit. The main characters in the book are Sadeed, his sister, Amira, and Abby. Also Abby's brother, Tom.
- First, we talk about Amira. Amira is female and she is a well behaved girl. She listened to her brother and followed his father's wish. I think she is a girl with courage. She showed her courage not only when she practiced rock-climbing, but also when she tried to get the chance to go through her sixth-grade, namely, to solve the problem of repeating the sixth-grade.
- Tom is Abby's brother, he likes rock climbing too. But he likes to tell tall tales. He even said that the policemen were chasing after him when he climbed a tall tower outside the campus. I think he's not quite honest on that point.
- Tom also likes to stay out in the pasture that belonged to his parents. There was a little land where he raised up some animals and where Abby could not get in.

- Good afternoon, everyone. It's an honor to be here. In this semester, we've read the book, Extra Credit. Our
report is about the differences and similarities between these two main characters, Sadeed and Abby.
- First of all, we look at their differences.
- Now we look at their schools. This was Abby's final year in the elementary school and she didn't pay much attention to her schoolwork until her teacher said that she would repeat the sixth grade. On the contrary, Sadeed was always a hard-working student and he studied in a small, mixed aged school.
- We've also found other differences.
- One, Abby speaks English. Sadeed speaks Arabic.
- Two, Abby's country terrain is plain and ravine, and Sadeed's is desert and highland.
- Three, Abby likes to climb, she likes the mountains. But Sadeed didn't like, he thinks it's dangerous.
- Now we talk about the similarities. Apparently, not only their parents but also their teachers love and are concerned about them. They both were assigned to an important task, which was to write a letter to a foreigner. They were both reluctant to do it in the beginning but they seemed to like it in the end.
- Their family members are alike – father, mother, brother and sister. There is one big brother and one young sister in their families. Although they have different personalities, they both devote themselves to what they are interested in. Sadeed liked English. He had the best skills in English in their village. Abby liked to climb. She never missed her Gym class. Even though it was hard to get to the top, she would take every chance to climb.
- That’s all about our report. Thank you for your attention.
