台灣的大眾運輸系統有著豐富的歷史。台灣的第一條鐵路路線是在清朝時期建成，使在這個多山的島嶼上快速旅行成為可能。這條鐵路在後來的100多年裡被重建、擴建、電氣化，成為我們現在所知的縱貫線。
